Definition
What UX design actually is
User experience design is the work of deciding what a visitor sees first, what they do next, and what stands in their way — before any colours or typefaces are chosen. It covers journey mapping, information architecture, and wireframing. It is the structure of the site, not its surface.
Why it matters
Why it decides whether a site sells
A visitor forms an intention in the first few seconds and then either finds the path you intended or invents one of their own. If the structure doesn't match how people actually decide — what they need to trust you, what they want to compare, when they're ready to ask — no amount of visual polish recovers the sale. Structure is the ninety percent that most redesigns skip.

Common questions
Is UX design separate from the website build?
No — it's the first phase of it. We don't hand over a research deck and stop; the maps become the wireframes that become the build.
Do you do user research?
As much as the project justifies. For most SME sites that means reviewing search behaviour, competitors and your own enquiry history rather than a formal study.
