Definition

What local SEO is

Local SEO is the work of appearing when someone near you searches for what you do: in the map pack at the top of Google, in Google Maps, and on searches that carry a place, such as "near me" or "in Al Wakrah". Google says three things decide those results, relevance, distance and prominence, and that nobody can pay for a better local ranking.

National rankings go to the strongest pages and links. The map pack is decided within a few kilometres, and it shows only three businesses. Try the map above: the same fixed profile wins from West Bay and drops out from Al Wakrah.

Why it matters

Why proximity beats authority for local intent

Many enquiries now start on the profile, not the website: the call and directions buttons, the photos, the hours and the reviews all sit on the results page. And because distance counts, a smaller business can win its own area, which is rarely true of national rankings, as Bushra Pharmacy shows.

  • One branch, top three

Bushra Pharmacy, a single branch in Al Wukair facing chains with more than 100 branches, reached the top three of the Maps pack there.

  • Calls and chats, counted

In July and August 2026 its site and profile brought 163 WhatsApp consultations, 89 calls and 223 delivery-app orders.

  • Distance is real

A profile in West Bay will not win "near me" searches in Al Wakrah, however good it is. Each branch needs its own.

  • Wrong details lose the call

An incomplete profile, the wrong category or the wrong hours loses the customer before your website gets a chance.

In Qatar

Four things that trip up Business Profiles in Qatar

Guides written for other countries miss these; search your name on Google Maps, Apple Maps and Bing to compare.

  • No postcodes

Use the building, street and zone from the blue Anwani plate, written the same way everywhere. An invented postcode breaks the match.

  • Video verification

Expect Google to ask for a short video: your sign, the premises, and something that shows you run the business, such as stock or tools.

  • Storefront or service area

Businesses customers visit show their address; contractors and cleaners hide it and list the areas served. Choosing wrongly often leads to suspension.

  • Hours that change

Sunday to Thursday weeks, different Friday hours, then Ramadan and Eid. Set special hours ahead, or Google shows you open when you are closed.

How it runs

The first eight weeks, then every month

You keep owner access and add us as a manager; we need real photos, your Anwani details and one person who asks for reviews.

  1. Week 1: the profile and the details

Claim or clean the profile, set categories, fix the pin, add real photos, match address and phone, and list you on Bing and Apple Maps.

  2. Week 2: the site

A page for each service, and for each area with real searches, plus LocalBusiness schema and a directions link to the profile.

  3. Weeks 3 to 8: reviews

A review link and the words to ask with, in Arabic and English. We track who was asked and reply to every review within a day.

  4. Every month after

New photos and posts, special hours before holidays, edits suggested by strangers checked and reversed where wrong, then the report.

Measuring it

How you'll know it's working

Watch these in the Business Profile's Performance view and your analytics, roughly in the order they move.

  • Calls, direction requests and website clicksProfile interactions respond first, often within weeks of the profile being complete.
  • The searches that showed youIf they name your services, relevance is working. If only your name, new customers are not finding you yet.
  • Top-three share across your areaChecked from points spread across your area, because position depends on where the searcher stands. This moves more slowly.
  • Enquiries from the siteCalls and WhatsApp chats counted in analytics after the visitor consents. This is the number that pays.
  • Reviews: count, average, answeredA profile with recent, answered reviews is the one people call.

Common questions

What does local SEO cost?

Local SEO is included in our Standard plan: QAR 3,000 a month for one website and one Google Business Profile, or QAR 2,500 a month paid yearly, with a three-month minimum, six recommended, and no exit fee after that. A business with several branches goes on the Multi-location plan, quoted per branch, because each branch needs its own profile, page and reviews.

How long does local visibility take?

Profile work can show within weeks: a complete, correct profile is shown and chosen more, and the calls and direction requests in its Performance view say so. Map positions for competitive searches in a crowded area take longer, and nobody can honestly give you a date. We report your position from several points each month, so you see the trend instead of waiting on a promise.

We have several branches. Does that change things?

Yes. Each branch needs its own profile, verified at its own address, and usually its own page with that branch's address, phone, hours and photos. The profiles should not share one phone number, and each page should link to its own profile. Done that way, branches do not compete with each other: each is the nearest option in its own area.

We don't have a shop. Can we still show up on Maps?

Yes, as a service-area business. The profile hides your address and lists the areas you serve instead, for example Doha, Al Wakrah and Lusail. You still need a real address for Google to verify, and should expect to film it; it just isn't displayed. Do not list a virtual office as a storefront to get a pin: it is a common reason profiles are suspended.

What should we fix first on our profile?

Start with what a buyer sees before calling: the category, the pin, the hours and the photos. In Auckland's published figures, direction requests outnumbered calls about five to one, so for a business people visit, the pin and the hours carry as much weight as the phone number. Then match the name, address and phone everywhere, and only then work on reviews.

Do reviews matter, and in which language?

You need them to be chosen: the profile with recent, genuine reviews that the owner answers is the one that gets the call. Ask every satisfied customer soon after the job, with a direct link. Let them write in either language, and answer each review in the language it was written in. Never buy reviews or reward them; Google removes them and can restrict the profile.

Who owns the profile if we stop working with you?

You do. The profile is created or claimed in your company's Google account, and you stay its primary owner. We are added as a manager, which lets us edit it but not remove you. If you stop the plan, you remove us, and everything stays: the reviews, the photos, the history, and the Bing and Apple Maps listings, which are in your name too.
